OUR STORY

TLA has partnered with educators for nearly four decades, strengthening teaching, leadership, and coherence within schools and districts.

  • Our Start

    The Center for Applied Child Development (CACD) opens as part of Tufts University’s Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development, with a focus on early childhood & literacy.

     

    1990

  • Research & Practice

    Educators and researchers at CACD study teaching and coaching methodologies in Boston-area early childhood settings. 

     

    1995

  • Growth

    CACD builds out its practice to include elementary and middle school, additional content areas, and new district partners  throughout New England.

     

    2000

  • Transformation

    CACD becomes an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit and rebrands as Teaching & Learning Alliance (TLA).

     

    2010

  • Depth & Breadth

    TLA introduces system-level and leadership professional learning services; launches new district partnerships in Texas. 

     

    2015

  • Adaptability

    TLA pivots to offer virtual services during the pandemic; formalizes support for partner districts in understanding Science of Reading research and implications for instruction.

     

    2020

  • Evolution

    TLA becomes a MA DESE-approved provider, celebrates the retirement of its founding Executive Director, and welcomes new leadership.
